Windswept palm trees, soft pastel colors and dreamy light match the tropical, windy feel of Key West, especially during a summer storm or a humid morning. I decided to do this with a grisaille. The smoky background and movement of the trees feels like a lull before or after a tropical breeze sweeps across the island. It is very interesting to hear during a storm when everything is quiet and calm, only the rustling of leaves with the wind is heard, so I called this painting "When the Wind Speaks".
